I am an emotive person. Some might call me dramatic, though I like to call myself, expressive 😉
I am often led by my feelings, however the problem with that is that these can so often be impacted by my circumstances. Is the same true for you? Well our God is so gracious and ever so patient and He waited for me to reach a point where i didn’t actually want to live like that anymore. I didn’t want to be tossed around by my emotions or led back and forth by my feelings. I wanted to be led the Spirit.
So i began asking the Lord for His truth in the situations i was facing. Whatever circumstance I found myself in, i began asking God to reveal His truth about it, not just focusing on how i was feeling. That is when transformation began to take place.
When you ask God for His truth you get a new perspective, and a new perspective can change the whole atmosphere around you.
No longer was i being led by my emotions, ruled by my pain, or my disappointments. My new perspective, His perspective, enabled me to see differently.
You get to see the truth and the truth is what can set you free.
I wasnt free when I was being led by my feelings. The weight of my emotions was a burden i didnt want to carry anymore. Let me just say here, that having emotions is not wrong. Our feelings are real and acknowledging them is the first step to freedom and healing. However being led by them, leads us to being controlled by them and that is when they are a burden and often stop us from experiencing the truth of God.
THE TRUTH ABOUT OUR IDENTITY
So do we believe the truth of our identity? Is the core of who we are led by our feelings or the truth of God?
I believe that when Jesus called us to follow Him, it was also an invitation to belong.
A sense of belonging is powerful to a persons soul. Would you agree? it might even be the most powerful point of transformation. I believe it opens the hearts, focuses the mind and aligns your spirit with the One who called you into belonging = JESUS. And because we are called to belong to Him, what He says about us , who He says we are is the TRUTH.
He calls us His children. He says we are worthy of His love and He freely gives that love unconditionally.
Lets look at one of the greatest displays of His Father’s heart toward us. The story of the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15: 11-31 ….Here we see that no matter what you have done, where you have gone, mistakes you’ve made, failures that followed you, your Heavenly Father says “Come home, I’m waiting for you. I’m ready to lavish you with belonging and love you unconditionally” He is waiting to welcome you into His arms. Arms that will hold you when you fall and give you peace when you feel like all hope is lost.
This is the TRUTH about our identity. When we take hold of this truth it will change our perspective. I pray it will change the way we live, set us free from the burden of being led by our feelings.
What beautiful words, and a lesson I need reminding of on a weekly (often daily) basis.
I’m looking forward to the next blog post. 💖
