Zephaniah 3: 10,12 (NIV)

10 From beyond the rivers of Cush
    my worshipers, my scattered people,
    will bring me offerings.

12 But I will leave within you
    the meek and humble.
The remnant of Israel
    will trust in the name of the Lord.

Growing up in the church, I had come to associate the word worship with the time dedicated to signing songs of faith and thanksgiving. This time of praise and worship was separate to the prayers and the sermon and the fellowship afterwards. It wasn’t until I was all grown up with a young family that i began to realise that worship is so much more than song and music. It is definitely found there, but it doesn’t end there.

How much more have we found, especially this past year, that worship isn’t confined to the church setting or particular building. The teaching of the Word and our prayers are all offerings of worship too. How often did worship flood our homes, our computer screens and our cars this past year?

Our Scripture for today shows us that the worshippers will bring an offering before the Lord. They will be meek and humble people and they will trust the name of the Lord – That is their offering.

This means that worship needs to involve our hearts and minds, not just our voices. Our entire bodies need to be committed to worship. How we serve God each day is an act of worship. Our choice to trust God each and every day is an act of worship – Trust is an offering of worship. When we are meek and humble before the Lord, choosing His way above ours, we posture ourselves in worship.

Worship is a posture of our hearts. When we realise this, we can live a life of worship. We can offer Him our trust, our humility, our adoration, our faith. These things are not just reserved for Church services. They encompass our entire lives, our entire bodies.

Doesn’t that mean that worship is a lifestyle before it is a set of praise songs?. Can I encourage you friends…Worship starts at home and needs to permeate our heart and mind before it leaves our lips.
